Villa Looking To Tie “Breath Of Fresh Air” Down To Extended Deal After Maiden Year At The Club

|

Since arriving from Hibernian last summer for a snip £3million fee, Scottish midfielder John McGinn has simply gone from strength to strength and was rightly named as our Players’ and Supporters’ Player of the Season for the 2018/19 campaign, but back in January Leicester City were heavily rumoured to be sniffing around him.

His performances naturally caught the eye in the middle of the park with his endless ability to run, but the speculation kicked up a gear once Brendan Rodgers made the switch from Celtic to the Foxes, as Rodgers did want the 24-year-old with them.

Villa Fans Will Be Hoping This Five Year Claim Comes True From Player

Nothing came of the speculation and quite rightly so, there’s no reason for it to return to the summer transfer rumour mill now given we’ve secured our place back in the top flight and building on his words above, his attitude on the Wembley pitch didn’t imply he was going anywhere.

The Daily Mail claimed on Wednesday that with West Ham potentially tempted as well, we would now offer him an improved and longer term deal in recognition of his importance to us.

His deal expires in 2022, so I see every sense in this, as interest in him will only spike if he has a good first year in the top flight, so tying down until 2023/24 with a 12 month option as a minimum should definitely be done.
